Characteristics of the SchoolInvitational and Positive Education

It is important to nurture innovative leaders for our society, and develop students’ ability and qualities for “learning to learn” and “lifelong learning”. On the other hand, students’ determination, a positive mindset, a sense of happiness and their eagerness to live with a purpose are the cornerstones of their lives. As such, our school sees highly of:

(I) developing students’ well being

(II) improving students’ learning capacity

We hope that through our connections with families, schools, churches and communities, we could join hands in nurturing our students and empowering them to “be passionate about life, be grateful with everything, enjoy learning and unleash their potentials”!

Renowned American educators Dr. William Watson Purkey and Dr. Betty Siegel are the founders of Invitational Education. They believe that every child is able, valuable and responsible. If a school can put more thoughts in establishing the five key areas, i.e. people, places, policies, programmes and processes, children would develop in a caring, respectful, trusted and optimistic environment, where they can fully exert their potentials, learn effectively, grow up happily and demonstrate their unique values and abilities.

This combines very well with the model of positive education proposed by the American psychologist Dr. Martin Seligman, which is based on positive psychology. Positive education emphasizes the importance of discovering and developing the individual strengths of students. It also places an emphasis on the positive engagement, positive accomplishment, positive emotions and positive health of students, so that they can love themselves, care for others, enjoy positive relationships, contribute to the society, achieve positive purposes and flourish in life.

Therefore, our school has based our model on the teachings of the Holy Bible, and has combined life education, positive education and invitational education to develop our school-based Christian Life Education programme. This programme aims to promote whole-person development in our students and nurture a growth mindset so that each and every child in our school can give full play to their strengths. With their own goals and purposes, they will become optimistic, positive, trustworthy, respectful, caring and grateful children who are as warm as the sunshine!
